Transatlantic and transcultural transfers facilitated by migrants are a central focus of our project. We define a transfer as the import or export of ideas, methodologies, or practices across national or cultural boundaries. Transfers usually involve a complex process of adaptation to make the ideas or practices amenable to the needs and circumstances of the receiving society. Transatlantic Perspectives explores those transfers that crossed the Atlantic, how they changed in the process, and how the transferred material was received or what impact it made.
